History of Essential Oils

Essential Oils have been around since earlier than Roman times. The Romans believed in the medicinal wisdom of essential oils using aromatherapy and aromatic herbs to promote health and hygiene.  The process of extracting oil from plants remains pretty much the same either through steam distillation or cold pressing.

However not all essential oils are the same.

As there is no official grading system I suggest reading the label ensuring purchase of a high grade 100% essential oil.  Purchase of a pure essential oil ensures maximum benefits.

3 Essential Oil Tips

  1. Use oils in multiples of three making them 11 times more powerful

When using an essential oil by itself its strength is to the power of one.  When combining two the effect is three times as powerful, and when combining three oils they become 11 times more potent.

  2. Use high grade essential oils

When burning essential oils ensure it doesn’t need to be therapeutic grade.  Therapeutic grade can be rubbed directly onto your skin however read the instructions on the label in case of allergies.   Remembering that whatever we put onto our skin is absorbed into our blood stream so the less toxins we put onto our body the better our body’s health and wellbeing.

  3. Use organic essential oils if possible

Anything organic has twice the amount of phytonutrients than commercially grown produce. So, if you are looking for faster health and wellbeing results (including boosting fertility) then go organic.

I have created for my fertility clients luxury natural soy candles (that don’t release black smoke) made with essential oils, hand poured i the UK  ideal for fertility.  Each blend has been combined with three specific essential oils enhancing your fertility journey.  I also stock two brands, doTERRA (organic therapeutic grade) as well as Absolute Aromas Organic Essential Oils in fertility trio packs.  These can be purchased via email, my workshops and retreats.

Some essential oils help fertility in different ways, for example, lavender can help facilitate fertility however it’s not good to be using when pregnant.  However one wouldn’t want to use it unknowingly when conception has just occurred.

Essential Oils for Balancing Hormones

What are hormones?
Hormones are our body’s chemical messengers that travel through our blood stream.
Hormones affect –
  • growth and development
  • metabolism
  • mood
  • reproduction
  • sexual function
The endocrine gland creates our hormones.  Our major endocrine glands are –
  • adrenal glands (above kidney, mid-lower back region)
  • pancreas (lower abdomen)
  • pineal (brain)
  • pituitary (brain)
  • thymus (upper chest)
  • thyroid (throat)
We also produce hormones in our sex organs (testes and ovaries).
We produce hormones from good fats and cholestrol so its important to consume good fats e.g. coconut oil.  On the flip side toxins from photo-oestrogens are problematic because they mimic hormones and trick the body into thinking that that was genuinely needed.  if its a fake hormone it becomes problematic in the body.

Foods for Hormone Health

Avoid –
  1. caffeine
  2. sugary, processed foods
  3. toxins
  4. oils such as – peanuts, canola, soya
  5. margarine
What to have –
  1. coconut oil
  2. olive oil (not heated)
  3. sesame oil (not heated)
  4. fresh fruit and vegetables, preferably organic and sourced locally for maximum life force energy
  5. blue-green algae (Klammath is the best brand – which we are also a stockist for)
  6. maca (a super food available for all health food stores ideal for hormone nourishment, increasing libido, fertility, sperm count and reducing PMS symptoms)
  7. magnesium (I use magnesium oil as a skin spray.  I prefer the transdermal version available from health food stores)

Activities for Balancing Hormones

  • Enjoyable light exercise (don’t overdo cardio as this can exhaust the body and not long runs for men as this can reduce sperm count)
  • Short sets of weight lifting (dumb bells with squats and lunges, kettlebells)
  • QiYoga is ideal because it is the most therapeutic style of yoga around
  • Sleep. Lots of sleep!

How to Balance Hormones with Essential Oils

Frankincense oil can be placed under the tongue first thing in the morning and last thing at night (2-3 drops of 100% therapeutic grade).
Geranium oil can be rubbed over the kidney and adrenal gland area (100% therapeutic grade)
  • To help overcome low progesterone levels a blend of geranium, oregano and thyme (oregano use with caution and build up slowly as it may burn).
Combinations for progesterone levels
  • frankincense, geranium, lavender and ylang ylang.

Considering Clomid for Fertility?

Looking for natural alternatives to Clomid?
Some people prefer using these above mentioned Essential Oils instead of going on Clomid.  Clomid increases the amount of hormones that stimulate ovulation.  This is because they won’t have to suffer with side effects of Clomid medication such as bloating, headaches, weight gain, dizziness.
*Note – I am not suggesting you come off Clomid until you have consulted your doctor
